Sault Michigan Boys Dominate at Dome, Girls take 2nd

MARQUETTE - Relay teams sealed a victory for the Sault High boys Tuesday at the Dome Invitational track meet.

The Sault dominated the 10-team meet, finishing with 102 points, 32 points ahead of second-place Marquette. Escanaba was third with 63 points.

The Blue Devils set a new Superior Dome record in the 3200 relay (8:32.24), and also won the 1600 relay (3:46.03).

Individual winners for the Sault boys were Cliff Lindsey in the 1600 run (4:43.09), and Jereld Sawyer in the discus (147-2.5)

The Blue Devils had a number of second and third-place finishes as well to help nail down the win. Jeremy Myers finished second in both the discus and the shot put while John Anderson finished second in the 800 run.

Third place finishes were taken by Tony Abramson in the 1600 run and Dan Brown in the 800 run. Josh Anderson also took two thirds in the 400 dash and the 200 dash, while Patrick Wodzinski took a third in the long jump.

Steve Ojala earned a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter high hurdles, and Eric Worley finished fifth in the 1600 run.

For the girls, Sarah Duesing continued to dominate the competition, winning three events to lead the Blue Devils to a second-place finish in the 10-team field. Marquette won with 96 points, 14 ahead of the 82 points captured by the Blue Devils. Gladstone placed third with 49.

Duesing won the 55 high hurdles (9.13), as well as the 400 dash (64.33), and the high jump (5-4) which is also a new Dome record. Mary Miller also took a first for the Blue Devils, winning the 1600 run (5:37.95).

The Sault relay teams took second in both the 1600 and the 3200 relays, while Natalie Cahill took second in the 800 run.

The Blue Devils earned a third place finish in the 800 relay as well. Mary Miller took a fourth in the pole vault, while Emily Guimond finished fifth in the discus.
