Class D Regional Track Meet

PICKFORD - The Pickford Panthers girls track team will be well represented at the U.P. finals on June 2 as they thoroughly controlled a Class D Regional on Thursday.
The Panthers scored 111 points in winning the regional, while Cedarville placed second with 32 and Brimley third with 20.
Pickford's "Miss Automatic' Ashley Bishop, took care of business, winning the shot put (39-7), and the discus (111-4). Rosanna Chapman also won a pair of events for the Panthers, as did Yvonne Keith. Chapman won the 1600 (5:59.72), and the 3200 (13:21.94), while Keith won the 100 (13.93), and the 200 (28.07).
Other Panther winners were Ashley Fountain in the 100 hurdles (17.46), Gabby Morrison in the 400 (63.32), Leslie Slater in the 300 hurdles (51.35), Rachel Morrison in the 800 (2:31.27), and Julie Hurban in the pole vault (7-6). The Panthers also swept the relay events, winning the 400 relay (55.66), the 800 relay (1:53,97), the 1600 relay (4:27.86), and the 3200 (10:49.86).
Also for the Panthers, Leslie Slater was second in the 100 hurdles, Cortnie Brown took third and Tiffany Campbell fourth in the 1600, Kara Waybrant was third in the 400, and Ashley Fountain second in the 300 hurdles. Campbell was third in the 800, Waybrant third in the 200, Stacy Rye was second in the 3200 and Brown was third. Peggy Keiper took second in the discus and Sandy Campbell third. Slater placed fourth in the high jump and Robyn Ruddy was third in pole vault. Keiper and Ashley Fountain finished 2-3 in the shot put.
Brimley got its lone win in the meet from Monique McIntyre in the high jump (5-1), and Engadine got a win from Tiffany Adams in the long jump (14-4).
Also for Brimley, Tara Ermatinger was fourth in the 100 and third in long jump, Grace Parish took fourth in the 3200, and Dana Case was third in high jump.
For Cedarville, Tara Amarose was third and Caroline Cochran fourth in the 100 hurdles. Meredith Cochran took second in the 1600, Laura Schaedig was second in the 400 and Amarose fourth. Schaedig also took second in the 800, Coryelle Cruchshank took fourth in the discus, Meredith Cochran was second in the high jump and Cori Beacom was second in the pole vault.
For Engadine, Tiffany Adams also took second in the 100 and Amanda Mast was third. Jessica Fether took fourth in the 300 hurdles. Alexa King was fourth in shot put and Mast also placed fourth in the long jump.
In the boys meet, Pickford prevailed with 56.50 team points. Cedarville was a close second with 53.50 and Engadine was third with 35.
A trio of triple-event winners highlighted the boys' meet. Nick Albright of Engadine won the 100 (11.68), 200 (23.74) and 400 (54.02) while teammate Jordan Wilcoxen won the 300 hurdles (42.59), pole vault (11-6) and long jump (17-10). Nick Schaedig of Cedarville claimed the 3200 (10:18.88, (1600 (4:40.99) and 800 (2:05.84).
Pickford prevailed with its team depth, also getting wins from Joe Nyberg in the 110 hurdles (17.64) and Doug Wallis in the high jump (6-1). The Panthers also won the 800 relay (1:41.04). Nyberg also took second in the 300 hurdles and Wallis was fourth in the long jump.
Other U.P. qualifers for the Panthers, included Josh Schwab with a third-place finish in the 110 hurdles. Dustin Esslin took second in the 100 dash, Brad Hunter was second in the 1600 and Erik Kucharszyk was fourth. Jared Hanna took third in the discus and second in shot put, Adam Wallis was second in the high jump. Cliff McConkey was fourth in the 3200, Mahlon Collins was fourth in the 800 and Dan Traynor was fourth in shot put. The Panthers also took second in the 1600 relay and 400 relay.
Duncan Martin of Cedarville won the discus (124-5) and placed third in shot put and fourth in the 300 hurdles. David Sanderson of Cedarville took third in the 110 hurdles and third in pole vault, Steve Paquin was second in the long jump, and Travis Sigman was fourth in pole vault. Anthony Wilson was second in the 400, Andy Vaal fourth in the 800, and Jason Sweeny third in the 3200. The Trojans won the 400 and 3200 relays.
Chris Winkler of Brimley won the shot put (44-9) and took second in discus. Also for the Bays, Jason Mauris took third in the 100 and 200, Erik Bland was third in the 1600, Dustin Behnke was fourth in the 400 and Justin Derusha took third in the 800.
For DeTour, Nathan Lehman took second in the pole vault and third in the 300 hurdles, Levi Bender took fourth in the 110 hurdles and 100 dash, Robert Young was third in the 400, Michael Burton was third in the high jump and Gary VanAlstine fourth.
Brian Vowell of Engadine placed third in the long jump.
