FLINT -- The Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils cross country team showed again over the weekend that it is one of the best in the state.
The Sault girls ran to a second place finish in a 23-team field, while the boys placed fourth among 25 teams in the Holly Cross County Invitational.
The girls team was led by Natalie Cahill who was the meet champion with a time of 19:21. The Blue Devils finished with 124 points, while Portage Northern won the meet with 96.
The Blue Devil boys had a total score of 170, just six points out of third, yet 50 points ahead of the fifth place team. Big Rapids won the meet with 56. The boys were paced by Tony Abramson, who finished 18th in 17:06
Coach Jim Martin was ecstatic with the performance of both teams.
"Everyone did a great job," Martin said of the meet. "Everyone from both teams improved their times from last year or last week or both by 20 seconds to over two minutes. Both teams really rose to the occasion."
