SAULT STE. MARIE -- Lake Superior State's Justin Andre has moved up to the No. 12 ranking nationally in the 10K race.
Andre broke a 25-year-old school record Saturday in the 10k with a time of 30:17.13. He broke Maurice Evans' record of 30:21 for the event. Andre has tentatively qualified for the NCAA Division II national meet in San Antonio, Texas. The top 16 qualifiers are invited to the meet and Andre currently ranks 12th with two weeks remaining in the season.
Lake State senior Trevor McGinn also ran a personal best and school record time of 14:45 in the 5k.
Freshman Amy Busfield became the first LSSU woman to run in the 3K-steeplechase. She finished in 12:08.43.
"I am cautiously optimistic about the trip to San Antonio," Laker coach D. J. Baars said. "The program has made tremendous strides in the last few years and I am proud to be a part of that."
