Sault runs sixth at BNC Jamboree
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils cross country teams struggled at the Big North Conference Jamboree. The boys finished sixth in the eight team field with 128 points, while the girls finished eighth, totaling 163 points.
Traverse City Central won the boys meet with 38, followed closely by Traverse City West with 39. Gaylord was third with 103 points, while Cadillac was fourth with 111, and Petoskey was fifth with 119. Alpena came in seventh with 150, and Cheboygan was eighth with 151.
Tony Abramson was the top finisher for the Sault. He finished 16th in 18:13, while Pete Duesing finished 19th in 18:30. Walter Bennette was 22nd, followed by Craig Cooper in 29th. Mike Osterhout was 42nd, while Mike Ferraro was 45th, and Jake Green placed 48th.
On the girls side, Traverse City Central won the meet with a 64, while Petoskey was second with 66. Traverse City West finished third with 67, and Gaylord was fourth with 78. Cheboygan placed fifth with 134, while Alpena came in sixth with 142, and Cadillac finished seventh with 147.
Kayce Lawrence was the only Sault runner to finish in the top 10. She placed ninth in 21:24, while Emily Bennette finished 26th (23:11). Melissa Kik finished 34th, while Jessica Green placed 44th. Nina Ojala finished 50th, while Amanda Tadgerson was 52nd, and Jennifer Corbiere did not finish the race.
Ryan Gleason was the top finisher for the JV boys. He placed 16th in 20:20, and Erin Gordon paced the Sault JV girls with a 20th place finish (26:42).
Adam Povey finished 12th for the Sault Middle School boys (13:23), while Sandra Day finished 12th for the Sault girls (16:40).
