UNIVERSITY CENTER The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field team broke three school records at an indoor meet on Friday at Saginaw Valley State University.
Steve Eles took the 1,600-meter lead with 500 meters to go and led all the way to the finish. His time of 4:21.26 set a new LSSU record, as did Aaron Litzner's 3,000-meter run time of 8:44. Litzner not only won the event, but set a new meet record as well.
"Our distance runners set many personal records at Saginaw Valley and we haven't started our speed work yet," LSSU first-year coach and Laker alum Drew Ludtke said. "They will continue to put in the miles, and get fit and stronger as the season continues. This is also the most diverse team we have ever had with good athletes in throws, jumps, sprints, and distance."
Dianna Kintz won the women's high jump at 5-feet-2 inches. She started the season jumping four inches than last year. Teammate Karen Abramczyk also cleared 5-2 in her first collegiate competition.
"Our girls team is working hard and staying positive," Ludtke said. "They have improved individually. More importantly, they have improved as a team in the last three months."
