Pickford girls control Morrison meet

PICKFORD -- The Pickford Panther girl's track team put on a strong performance on Saturday afternoon, leading an 8-team field at the Web Morrison Invitational.

The Panthers scored 146 to take the top spot, while Brimley was second with 103. Engadine scored 84, while Cedarville finished with 72. DeTour was fifth with 55, and Mackinac Island was sixth with 29. Powers-North Central was seventh with 23, and Whitefish Township School was shut out.

The Panthers won 10 of the 17 events with Rosanna Chapman and Peggy Keiper each winning two events.

Chapman won the 800 (2:47.03), and the 1600 (6:12.79), while Keiper took the discus (87-11), and the shot put (32-6). Megan Hunter got a win for the Panthers in the 400 (1:07.34), and C. Brown won the 3200 (13:51.52). K. Peffers was the top finisher in the pole vault (7-0). The Panthers also took relay wins in the 3200, the 1600, and the 800.

For the second-place Bays, Dana Case won a pair of events. She took the 100-hurdles (17.48), and the high jump (4-8). Also for the Bays, Katie Kingsbury won the 100 (13.83).

Amanda Mast won the 200 (29.39), and the long jump (13-9.5) for the Engadine Eagles.

For the Cedarville Trojans, Caroline Cochran won the 300 hurdles (53.14), and the Trojan 400 relay team also picked up a win.

In the boy's meet, Powers-North Central dominated the meet. The Jets lived up to their name, winning eight events and scoring 162 points.

Cedarville was second with 101 behind three wins from Drew Paquin. Pickford was third with 90, and DeTour was next with 75. Brimley finished fifth with 63, while Engadine was seventh with 31. Mackinac Island and Whitefish Township finished with 1 and no points, respectively.

Paquin won the 100 (11.76), the 200 (25.00), and the 400 (55.72) for the Trojans, while David Sanderson won the 110 hurdles (17.19).

For Pickford, Jesse Bishop won the discus (121-7), and T. King took the 300 hurdles (48.58).

DeTour got wins from Jeremy Burton in the long jump (17-3), and the 1600 relay team also picked up a win.

Josh Winkler earned the Brimley Bays' only win. He took the shot put (43-4).
