Eles wins steeplechase at GLIAC Outdoor Championships

Cojeen and Thuss also finish in top six

UNIVERSITY CENTER - Steve Eles finished first, Andy Cojeen third and Jeff Thuss sixth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Lake Superior State track and field team at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships held Friday and Saturday at Saginaw Valley State.

Eles clocked a 9:25.98 to earn the Lakers' only gold medal. Cojeen finished in 9:36.09, while Thuss had a time of 9:48.74. The men's 4x100 relay team of Travis Ash, Loren Ayotte, Nathan Templeton and Ben Andrews was fifth (:44.34).

Anthony Pavicic was eighth in the men's 1,500-meter run (4:06.57), while Aaron Litzner was eighth in the 5,000 (15:10.70) and Jerry Drennan 11th in the 10,000 (33:27.92).

Dianna Kintz led the LSSU women with a third-place finish in the high jump. She cleared 5-2 1/2.

Amy Busfield finished sixth in the women's 3,000-meter run (10:40.40) and seventh in the steeplechase (12:05.84).

School records were set by the men's 400 and 1,600 relays (Andrews, Pavicic, Ross Malatinski and Templeton, 3:27.30), Andrews in the 200 dash (:22.38), Kintz in the high jump and Busfield in the 3,000.
