McDonough sets pace for Sault at Elks meet
NEWBERRY -- The Sault Blue Devils boys track team finished third in the Newberry Elks Invitational on Thursday afternoon, but Marc McDonough earned an honor that had not been bestowed on a Blue Devil in over 10 years.
McDonough was named the Meet's Outstanding Performer after winning the long jump and the 200. He also took a second in the 100.
St. Ignace won the meet with 123 points, while Newberry was second with 111. The Sault was third with 95, while Manistique was fourth with 93. The Engadine Eagles were fifth with 61, and the Rudyard Bulldogs placed sixth with 20.
The Blue Devils also got a win in the 800 relay as Peter Galo, Mark Bisdorf, Kyle Ward, and Dion Josiah teamed for the victory.
St. Ignace won the girls meet as well, getting 149 points, while the Sault finished second with 140. No other team scores or official results were available.
The Sault got five first place finishes at the meet. Emily Bailey won the 100 hurdles, while Erica Green took the 100 dash. Bobbi Kennedy won the 300 low hurdles, and Emily Browning won the pole vault. The Blue Devils also picked up a win in the 400 relay as Stephanie Day, Green, Julie Mason, and Sagen May combined to nail down the top spot.
