Pickford girls, boys win EUP meets

PICKFORD -- The Pickford Panthers took both ends of an EUPC track championship meet on Thursday afternoon.

The Panther girls avenged a recent regional loss to the Cedarville Trojans, dominating the green and white 126-84.

The Brimley Bays finished third with 66, while Engadine was fourth with 54, and DeTour placed fifth with 16.

Caitlin Mortinsen continued her winning ways, taking three events for the Panthers. She won the 100 (13.51), the 200 (28.66), and the 400 (1:05.62). In addition for the Panthers, Cortnie Brown won the 3200 (13:50.54), while Veronica Gough took the long jump (13-5.5), and Jessica Ledy won the pole vault (7-0). Pickford also got relay wins in the 400 (55.11), and the 3200 (11:06.55).

For the Cedarville Trojans, Caroline Cochran won a pair of events, taking both the 100 hurdles (17.82), and the 300 hurdles (53.61). The Trojans also got wins from Lauren Izzard in the 800 (2:41.35), and Shayna Rohrer in the discus (97-7.5).

The Brimley Bays picked up two relay wins, taking the 800 (1:59.60), and the 1600 (4:37.04). Molly McIntyre had Brimley's only individual win, taking the high jump (4-10).

Elicia Derusha earned a win for Engadine, finishing first in the 1600 (6:03.18), and Christine Ocko got another one for the Eagles, winning the shot put (33-9.5).

For the boys, Pickford scored 143.5 points, beating out the Trojans, who finished second with 98.5. Brimley was third with 58, while Engadine was fourth with 36, and DeTour was fifth with 16.

Josh Schwab won two events for the Panthers. He took the 110 hurdles (15.88), and the high jump (6-0). Chris Thompson earned a win for Pickford in the 800 (2:08.61), while Jesse Bishop won the discus (125-11.5). Kurt Hanna finished first in the long jump (18-1.5), and Davis Rye earned a win in the shot put (41-6). The Panthers also picked up a win in the 1600 relay (3:51.43).

The Trojans got a pair of wins from Jason Sweeney and David Sanderson. Sweeney won the 1600 (4:51.92), and the 3200 (10:35.53), while Sanderson finished first in the 300 hurdles (43.45), and the pole vault (10-0). Cedarville also won the 3200 relay (9:15.39).

Brimley did not score an individual win, but did notch two relay wins in the 400 (48.78), and the 800 (1:41.11).

Mike Houghton won two of the sprint events for the Engadine Eagles, taking the 100 (11.70), and the 200 (24.64).

The DeTour Raiders got its only win of the meet from Jeremy Burton, who won the 400 (55.90).
