Folkersma sets pace for Rudyard

NEWBERRY -- Charlotte Folkersma led the pack to lead the Rudyard girls cross country team to a win in a cross country tri-meet Tuesday at the Canada Lanes recreation area.

Folkersma finished first overall, touring the 5K course in a time of 22 minutes, 43 seconds. Also for Rudyard, Sara English was 5th in 26:05, Mary Couling was 6th in 29:39, Sam Tulgetske was 10th in 33:00 and Jessie Rynbeg was 12th in 34:10.

Newberry was second with 39 and Munising was third with 56. Rachel Ronquist paced the Indians, finishing 4th in 25:38. Laura Siuda was 7th in 30:31, Jenny Bragiel was 8th in 30:43, Shannon Hopper was 9th in 31:44, and Megan Fair was 11th in 33:37.

In the boys' meet, Justin Hoolsema (19:02) and Alex Malaski (19:24) finished 1-2 to lead Rudyard to victory. The Bulldogs compiled 27 points, Munising was second with 40 and Newberry was third with 53.

Josh Kaminski placed 6th in 20:22, Isiah Otten was 7th in 20:24 and Kyle Rice was 11th in 20:59.

For Newberry, John Prieto took third in 19:31 and David Tremblath was 10th in 20:45, Mike Servarns was 12th in 21:10, Nick Engman was 13th in 21:58 and Brian Richards was 15th in 22:18.
