Sault runs at Jackson meet
JACKSON -- The Sault High cross country teams ran to ninth and tenth-place finishes at the Jackson Invitational Saturday.
The Blue Devils boys finished ninth in a strong 14-team Division 2 field. Bloomfield Hills Lahser won the meet with 53 points, followed by Williamston with 72 and Chelsea with 114, to round out the top three squads. Sault High compiled 260 points.
Stu Chipman paced three sub-18 minute runners for the Sault, touring the course in a time of 17 minutes, 39 seconds, and finishing 36th. Tyler Gage was 45th in 17:57 and Walter Bennette was 46th in 17:57. Ryan Gleason ran 66th in 18:49, while Gary Herschell took 67th in 18:50. Ethan Parker was 80th in 19:35 and Andy Castagne was 81st in 19:37.
In the girls meet, Sault High placed 10th out of 14 teams. East Grand Rapids led the pack with 52 team points, while Hillsdale was runner-up with 81 and Jackson Lumen Christi was third with 91. Sault High posted 280 points.
Lindsey Lalonde paced the Blue Devils, placing 39th in 21:42. Ashlee Andrews took 52nd in 22:09 while Wrindy Shann was 59th in 22:39. Brittany Ockenfels was 62nd in 22:44, Sandra Day was 68th in 23:15, and Stephanie Day took 70th in 23:27.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to run in a Straits Area Conference meet at Rogers City on Tuesday.
