Ideal conditions greeted hundreds of Sault student-athletes as the High School Cross Country meet was held at Kinsman Park Wednesday.
With temperatures hovering around 10 degrees the competitors were able to put in solid performances.
The Senior Girls 5 kilometre race was won by KorahÂ’s Coco Mancuso in 21-minutes 54.47 seconds. SJD runners Kristen Avery and Brittany Shamess were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The DunnÂ’s Rhiannon Johns won the Junior 4K ahead of Carissa Holley of White Pines. The Eagles Shannon Delarosbil took 3rd. In the Midget aged 3K the DunnÂ’s Samantha Filek took gold ahead of KorahÂ’s Vivian Steele. Heather Bedell of St. Basil was 3rd.
Senior boys gold went to Reg Peer of Sir James Dunn. He covered the 7K race in 25-minutes 31.48 seconds. John Harvey from St. MaryÂ’s was second and the Eagles Ian Connell third. The Junior boys 6K champ was SJDÂ’s Dominik Graf. Ryan Poser and Dean Lamming completed an Eagles sweep of the podium. KorahÂ’s Spencer Hogan beat the field in the Midget boys 5K. SMCÂ’s runners Adrian Colak and Richard MacLennan finished 2nd and 3rd.
Top three performers in each race qualified for the NOSSA championships next Friday in North Bay.
