Sault Michigan runners sweep SAC meet

ST. IGNACE - Sault High runners set the pace in a Straits Area Conferece cross country meet Tuesday.

The Blue Devils swept both the girls and boys' meets. Jenna Paquette led the way for the Sault girls, posting a winning time of 21:54 over the 5K course.

Aril Baril of the Sault took third in 22:01 and Brenna Moher was fifth in 22:23. Brittany Ockenfels placed 15th in 23:14 and Cassie Maleport was 17th in 23:22, as the Blue Devils finished with a team score of 41.

Cheboygan took second with 61 points, and Newberry was third with 70. They were followed by Rogers City 117, St. Ignace 120, Cedarville 199, Pickford 201, Rudyard 230 and DeTour 447.

The Sault boys compiled a winning score of 27. Rogers City was second with 86 and Rudyard took third with 96. They were followed by Newberry 118, Cedarville 170, Cheboygan 193, St. Ignace 209, DeTour 210, and Pickford 322.

Jake Bennette of the Sault won the boys' race in 18:08, while Ethan Parker was third in 18:41 and Zach Ewing was fourth in 18:46. Kyle Maleport was sixth in 19:05 and Keane Cairns took 13th in 19:49.

Newberry will host its annual Foxes and Hounds cross country meet on Saturday.
