Sault Michigan runs at Jackson Invitational

JACKSON - Sault High ran against a strong field at the Jackson Invitational over the weekend.

The Sault boys finished eighth with a score of 187. Jake Bennette led the Blue Devils with a time of 16:47, for a 7th-place showing.

Other times for the Blue Devils included Ethan Parker (17:31/22nd), Kyle Maleport (18:29/45th), Zach Ewing (18:38/48th) and Keane Cairns (19:09/65th).

Kalamazoo Hackett won the boys' meet with 67 points, followed by Sturgis 104, and Hillsdale 105.

The Sault girls placed ninth with 293. Arin Baril turned in the best Sault finish, taking 41st in 21:33. Other Sault results included Jenna Paquette (21:52/48th), Brenna Moher (21:59/53rd), Cassie Maleport (22:06/60th), and Meghan Stan (23:41/91st).

Jackson Lumen Christi won the girls' meet with 70 points, followed by East Grand Rapids A 89, and Schoolcraft 99.

In junior varsity races, Cody Ware led the Sault boys with a 32nd place showing in 19:42. Other top places for the Sault JV boys included Travis MacArthur (40), Curtis Gage (73), Pat Brewster (104) and Deven McGahey (107).

Kirsi Heikkinen paced the Sault JV girls with a 33rd place effort in 24:17. Also for the Sault JV girls, Caitlin Cooper was 70th, Kyli Burtt (71), Kim Knauf (73), and Brianna Slater (74).

Sault runners fared very well in the middle school division. For the Sault Middle School boys, Jeremy Goetz placed third to lead five Blue Devils in the top ten. Sam Burtt was 6th, Dominic Berlinger 7th, Sean McGahey 9th and Cole Hyrski 10.

Hali Behling took third and Emily Ockenfels was 8th for the Sault Middle School girls.

Central Lake Invitational

Three EUP teams ran at the Central Lake Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

Ellsworth won the boys' race with 67 points. Cedarville placed 9th among 13 teams with a score of 218, while DeTour was 10th with 225 and Pickford was 11th with 257.

Teryn Miller led DeTour with a 15th-place showing in 18:14, while Thomas Worden was 25th in 18:49. Also for the Raiders, Andy Dyal was 68th, Nathan Klamerus was 69th and Max Peterson was 78th.

For the DeTour JVs, Chase Livingston took fifth in the boys' meet and Ashley LaPoint was 11th in the girls meet. Shane Viilo finished 12th in the middle school boys' meet, and Devon Livingston was 24th in the middle school girls' meet.
