NEWBERRY - Jacob Bennette and Ethan Parker led the Sault boys cross country team to a win at Tuesday's Straits Area Conference Jamboree.
The Sault finished with 26 points as Bennette was the top finisher at the meet with a time of 17:49, while Parker was second in 18:12. The Sault had four runners in the top 10 as Zach Ewing was fifth in 18:31, and Kyle Maleport was sixth in 18:43.
Rudyard was a distant second in the meet with 82 points, and Newberry was third with 110. Rogers City was fourth with 130, while Cedarville was fifth with 153, and DeTour was sixth with 189. Cheboygan was seventh with 222, while St. Ignace was eighth with 239, and Pickford was ninth with 303.
Other Sault finishers included Sam Scott in 12th, and Keane Cairns in 16th. Tyler Goetz was 17th.
In the girls meet, the Sault finished second behind Cheboygan. The Chiefs posted a score of 42, while the Blue Devils finished with 70.
Newberry was thrid with 79, while Rogers City was fourth with 102. St. Ignace was fifth with 123, and Pickford was sixth with 180. Rudyard finished seventh with 240, while Cedarville was eighth with 317, and DeTour was ninth with 455.
Jenna Paquette was the top finisher for the Sault. She was eighth with a time of 22:15, while Arin Baril was right behind her in ninth in 22:36. Brenna Moher was 14th (23:05), while Alex Perry was 19th (23:15). Brittany Ockenfels was 20th (23:16).
Individual results for other SAC schools were not reported to The Evening News.
