Sault Stryders Meeting Minutes
Meeting held March 31, 2010 at the John Rhodes Center

Meeting called to order at 7:05 by Nathan Mudge and those in attendance were welcomed.

Marg Meincke read the minutes of the previous meeting which took place on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Rhodes Centre. Motion to accept the minutes as read by Nathan, seconded by Glenda, passed.

Treasurer's Report: Glenda reported that the club has $20.83 in petty cash and $1,545.90 in the club account after receiving $130.50 from the Boxing Day Run.

Membership Survey Results: Nathan reported that one thing stood out in the survey. Many runners thought the Saturday Morning runs were for competitive runners and this perception should change. Sherri believes we should emphasize the fact that these runs are also for beginners and one experienced runner should stay with the slower runners each week. It was also felt that it is important to start as a group and always meet at the end to emphasize the social aspect of our runs.

Thursday Track Workouts: Jennifer reported that this was her last report as she is relocating. The winter season at Lake State went very well with between 4 to 8 runners in attendance on a regular basis. The group workouts have moved back out doors at the John Rhodes Track and Jennifer will lead her last workout on May 6th after which Sherri has agreed to continue leading the group. Jennifer also asked why - with so many runners on the e-mail list only a few take advantage of the workouts.

Saturday Runs: Nathan reported steady turnout for the runs but put up for discussion if people felt attendance could be boosted if the runs had a permanent starting location. After some discussion the group favoured changing locations because of the variety it brings. It was also suggested that water and gatorade be provided for runners - possibly through local business donations.

Upcoming Runs:

April 10th: The Run for Haiti

April 13th: Wellness Fair: at Sault College - Sault Stryders to hand out club info at this event

April 24th: Cabin Fever 5k run at Lake State

May 30th: Mountain Maple Run on St. Joe's

June 6th: Run the Great Lakes - Doug Richardsen stated that this would be the last year for the half marathon distance

July 17th Rotary Feast: One mile run on Queen Street - accessible to all and good exposure for the club

July 31st: 10k run on the waterfront in conjunction with Finn Fest

August 14th: St. Joe's Triathalon - includes duathalon, Tri a Tri and Kids of Steel

September 25th: a new Soo Michigan event - to include 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon distances - details yet to come

Most members in attendance do not like the new format on our website for listing upcoming events and would prefer a return to the old format.

Nathan would like to investigate the possibility of gaining access to the ski clubs building at Hiawatha for club runs there - coffee etc. could be served to make the outings a more social event.

Sneaker Drive: Theresa Mudge requests all members to give her unwanted used running shoes. She will turn them over to William Merrifield School for needy students in September. They would be very appreciative of any donations - larger sizes would go to the secondary schools.

Constitution: Glenda noted that our constitution stipulates for a vice-president which is currently vacant. Glenda nominated Steve D. and he accepted and was accepted by the membership.

Membership Benefits - Our members currently enjoy a 10% discountfrom the Athlete's Foot and the Country Way Health Food Store.

Motion to adjourn the meeting by Theresa M at 8:21, seconded by Nathan M carried.
