The Sault Ste. Marie West Zone Elementary Track and Field Championships were held Thursday at a hot and muggy Jo Forman Track at the Queen E. Sports Complex.
St. Theresa's Jordan Severini captured two events, the 100 metres and running long jump and was also part of the 400 metre relay winning effort. Jacob Valley won the 400 metres. St. Ann competitors took home three top finishes, Neil Fesko in the 200 metres, Anthony Butorac in the 800 and Marcus Diaz in the softball throw. Alec Dorazio of St. John won the triple jump. Dustin Couturier from Holy Family won the high jump.
St. Theresa also took four events in the Girls Division. Kristine Dovigi won the high jump, Sote Lillie the softball throw and Samantha Iacoe the 200m. Alyssha Petkovic from Our Lady of Lourdes won the 100 and running long jump. Rachel Iacoe from St. Ann won the 400m. Brittany Syms of St. Pius X captured the 800m and Amanda Alexander from St. John won the triple jump.
PEE WEE BOYS
Nick Tassone from Our Lady of Lourdes put in a tremendous performance winning three events the 100, 200 and running long jump. He also helped OLOL won the 400 metres relay. Richard Anderson of St. Ann captured the triple jump and Nick Oliverio of St. John the high jump. Softball throw winner was Josh Wilson of St. Francis. Mitchell Mazzuca from St. Pius X was fastest in the 800 and Notre Dame des Ecoles Jan Morin the 400.
PEE WEE GIRLS
St. Ann led the division capturing six of the nine categories. Megan Cerenzia posted wins in the 200m, running long jump and high jump. Teammates Taylor Spina and Chelsea Reader won the triple jump and 800 metres respectively. St. Ann also captured the 4-by-100 relay. Other winners were, Lindsey Tessariol of St. Francis in the 100, St. Theresa's Alyssa Dovigi in the 400 and Karina Gagne of Notre Dame des Ecoles in the softball throw.
Anthony Stefano of St. Pius X was top performer with victories in the running long jump and 100 metres. Schoolmate Brandon Grandinetti won the 50m. Our Lady of Lourdes picked up two wins as Ryan Morin took the standing long jump and Jessie Delavalle the high jump. Justin Senecal from St. Theresa won the 200m. Softball throw winner was Mathieu Goulet from Notre Dame des Ecoles.
Our Lady of Lourdes took three of the seven titles. Mercedes Ryan won the 100 and high jump while Liz Naccarato was fastest in the 200. St. Theresa produced 50 metre champ Vanessa Rota and softball throw winner Camille Ciccone. Chelsea Nelli of St. Pius X won the running long jump. Standing long jump honours went to Christine St. Jules of Notre Dame des Ecoles.
A double winner was produced as Dalton Toppan from Our Lady of Lourdes won the 50 metres and running long jump. Lions' teammate Jacob Porco won the high jump. Zack Senecal of St. Theresa won the 100 while schoolmate Bruce Sissenah claimed first in standing long jump.
Our Lady of Lourdes captured two titles as Kadi Lepage won the 50 metres and Taija-Down Ryan the 100. Payton Burrows of St. John was first in the running long jump. Meagan Barnes from St. Ann captured the standing long jump. High jump winner was Chantal Livingstone from Notre Dame des Ecoles.
